HIPAA
Keeping client information private and secure has always been a priority at Accent. That is why the recently enacted Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) regulations were not cause for concern within our organization.

Accent is considered a "business associate" under the HIPAA regulations since we perform functions and activities on behalf of "covered entities", who are our healthcare clients. As a business associate, Accent may receive protected health information when providing our services, but maintains a contractual obligation to our clients to protect this information and adhere to HIPAA privacy and security regulations.

In order to assess Accent's status with regard to HIPAA, a dedicated HIPAA Project Manager and cross-functional team completed a gap analysis and developed our plan to ensure compliancy. Some of the highlights of the activities completed through this process include:

Appointing experienced Compliance and Privacy Officers to lead Accent's compliance with HIPAA regulations, respond to security and privacy inquiries, and monitor any changes and interpretations with HIPAA regulations.

Creating a cross-functional Compliance Team to assist the Compliance and Privacy Officers.

Providing updated HIPAA information to associates via Accent's intranet site.
Adopting company-wide policies consistent with the HIPAA mandates.

Executing business associate agreements with our customers and modifying our standard agreement to include language regarding the privacy and security of our clients' information.

Completing HIPAA training for all associates and developing ongoing training that will be presented to Accent associates on a scheduled, periodic basis.
