Since the inception of our business, Accent has worked with Blue Cross Blue Shield (BCBS) plans to understand your business so that we may create and/or customize services that suit your needs.

Our commitment to learning about BCBS plans is part of the reason that we have been awarded one or more aspects of cost containment business for several BCBS plans nationwide, including individual plans and multiple plan affiliates.

Indeed, because of our BCBS partnerships Accent has gained invaluable knowledge of the way BCBS plans do business. We fully understand ITS/Blue Card, the processing of “Home” and “Host” claims and the surrounding challenges, FEP plans and their sensitivities, NASCO claims, and BCBS Association requirements. Additionally, BCBS plans typically invest in supplemental and primary insurers for government  programs as well, including Medicare Supplement and Medicaid. Accent works not just with BCBS plans, handling cost-containment functions for both these areas, but also with many of the nations largest Medicaid-specific plans in identifying and recovering overpayments, lending expert experience to Accent on federal and state-specific requirements for these plans.

We understand that Blue Cross Blue Shield (BCBS) Plans have invested significantly in Other Party Liability (OPL) units that have proven successful in handling recovery functions for claims where another source is liable for payment, including Coordination of Benefit (COB) or Third Party Liability (TPL) situations. Recognizing this success, Accent’s FIRST ID service keeps BCBS plans focused on recovery of TPL cases, while eliminating the administrative and financial resources it takes to identify them. Additionally, because we have learned that investigating members for other coverage can be a time and resource consuming administrative burden, Accent created COB Discovery. With COB Discovery, Accent performs member outreach to query the population and identify other sources of health insurance coverage. This information is fed back to the Blues plan, enabling them to determine the proper order of primacy at the time of claims payment, avoiding costly mispaid claims and the rework associated with correcting them. Similar to COB Discovery is Accent’s Employer Group Size Verification service which performs outreach similar to COB Discovery, but to employer groups. The goal is to determine the size of the employer group. Having this information allows the Blues Plan to comply with Medicare Secondary Payer regulations that may apply to groups depending on their employee size. As seen in recent legal activity, failure to properly calculate the number of employees of a given employer can result in substantial fines and penalties.
