Accent was founded in 1986 as the result of pilot project with a Fortune 500 health insurance carrier seeking recovery services for its overpayments.

Quickly realizing that recovering overpayments was vastly different from other markets, Accent began offering insurance recovery services, virtually creating the health care cost containment service market.

While overpayment recovery and third party liability identification and recovery were our initial service offerings, market and client demand soon turned our attention further upstream in the claim payment cycle. 

We built our data mining/overpayment identification system by analyzing our overpayment inventory and recognizing the primary causes of leakage during the claim payment cycle. 

Focus on coordination of benefits, eligibility and duplicate payments soon expanded to contractual issues.  Accent now has an entire team dedicated to researching and developing new concepts for data mining, while also moving into the realm of preventing overpayments through prepayment.

Our newly established investigative services gather information so that payers have the information they need to pay claims accurately the first time. Our commitment to learning and understanding healthcare financial trends has led us to develop a suite of specialty pharmacy services designed to educate payers on how improper payments occur on biotechnology derived pharmaceuticals and how these payments can be recovered. 

Through two decades in the industry one thing remains apparent, our sole focus on health care has proven successful - Accent has recovered over $2 billion in improperly paid health care claims.  Indeed, in our most recent history, we identify nearly a half billion dollars and recover over $300 million each year.
